Twin Peek: 7th inning stretch
David Duchovny as a transvestite DEA agent. Well played. I was eye-rolling a little too often.  You kept oscillating between the serious and the absurd.  I wasn’t sure how much more ridiculous, racist-stereotype Tajimura or brooding James and Donna I could handle. Well played.

Twin Peek
Of course I’m calling this series of blog posts my Twin Peek. — Now that I’ve watched the whole first season, I realize I should do a brain dump blog after each episode because David Lynch crams a whole mess of crazy into each episode.  Questions & Concerns, major: Why would the FBI be called in within 6 hours or so?  Laura’s barely been discovered and already Agent...

The Theme Music Still Gives Me the Willies, Or:...
I’m two episodes in to the first season of Twin Peaks (three if you include the pilot), and I’m already baffled at the acting (dramatic! wonderhorrible! All Laura’s mom does each episode is grab her hair and scream!) and anxious about watching this before bed. Like a little kid last night, I checked the closet—under the pretense of noting the laundry…not doing...

Dave's Killer Bread →
Dave Dahl’s story is featured in this week’s (Jan 19-25) edition of Real Change, but the website isn’t quite up to date, as, obviously, you should buy from a vendor instead of scamming the news for free on the web. You can read his story here, and look for your own copy of Good Seed, his recipe/photo/book collaboration with Portland-based artist Varinthorn Christopher.

elsi: Dear Maricopa, Governor Jan Brewer has released her budget proposing that the allocation for the Maricopa Community Colleges be cut 85 percent, from our current $45.3 million to $6.9 million in the 2011-12 fiscal year. This $38.4 million reduction represents approximately a 6 percent cut in the… Ugh. Just ugh.

Hands Down.
I just had a snowball fight, muhfuckers.  I made snowpeople. I talked to neighbors, and got a cold, wet ass. On a different January 11th, I started my period. This January 11th wins.

Grace in Small Things #2
1. The laundry room in our building was free today, so I didn’t have to hoof it down the block. 2.  It’s clear enough outside that I can see the Olympics, in all their snow-peaked glory, from my side yard. 3.  My shower water temperature didn’t fluctuate at. all. this morning. 4. Our new upstairs neighbor isn’t loud, and she seems kind. 5.  I found three pair of jeans...

Serves Me Right or: Don't Assume Someone Has...
As I was rounding the corner to switch the laundry from washer to dryer, I saw the homeless man who frequents said corner urinating on a utility pole outside the laundromat door. I didn’t see his penis. Rather, I saw him pulling up his pants and he was mid-tuck by then, palming his genitals to situate them before he zipped.   I recoiled, averted my eyes, and judged him. “Jesus. He...
